- In the United States 40 + million people are caregivers. Many of them take care of elders who suffer from memory loss, depression and anxiety and many of these care givers are unpaid.
- We want to bring this program to this deserving and under served population.
- We want to offer them full day workshops that provide both self care and new tools to apply to their care giving.
*An interactive music and story telling session between the creative engagement coaches and the participants.
*An exploration of music, and the thoughts, feelings and stories it evokes.
*Exploration of the effects of music and story telling on the brain and body.
*Sustained creative engagement which ignites their presence and has *therapeutic benefits.
How does it happen?
This program primarily uses live music, that can be selected based on the participants age, interest and responses to preliminary questions.
This provides a mix of music they have never heard before and personalized music selections, both of which can provide stimulation, comfort and relief and transform the participant with it’s energy.
The length of session can be adjusted based on need and group size and can be a one on one session if desired.
The most important component of this program is it’s interactive nature.
The coaches play or sing the music with the participants which stimulates the thoughts, images and memories in the participants.
In between songs; there are a series of verbal prompts related to the song played or sung.
The music coaches engage in a very deep level of listening. This encourages those we are working with to listen more deeply to the music, and to the thoughts and to the stories that pop up!
In the same way an item like a photograph, a book or certain food, can bring a mood for sharing a story, so can music.
When a participant talks of their love of music, this passion and information can contribute to a fuller picture of their personality.
The participants are given an opportunity to be seen and heard; and open up about what the music is stimulating in them and their imagination. This engagement fosters a calm but social place where participants can be animated in their stories, that are brought on by the music. This return of their “Animated” quality, is really their character and personality being re-engaged.
The ever growing community of Elders with Dementia and Alzheimer’s, is certainly one of those communities that can feel lost, not heard or seen.
We feel Music and Story telling which are both spiritual traditions, can kindle the SPIRIT and can take us on a journey through memories and bring us into a deeper presence, into the present moment.
Who is this program for?
1) For Elderly with or without symptoms of Dementia, Mentally ill adults and all Seniors and Adults with Memory Impairment, Anxiety and Depression.
2) For Care givers and Family members:
By being in a Stories Love Music session themselves, caregivers and family will understand how to be a "guide" with this music prompted story telling.
They will learn how to better prompt their clients and families stories and oral histories; and engage in a deeper level of listening.
*These stories can also be captured as audio or video and provide the family with these stories as treasure and legacy.
The purposes for which the corporation is formed are as follows: Utilize creative engagement including oral history and music traditions as a form of therapy and relaxation for individuals suffering with dementia, Alzheimer's, PTSD, anxiety or depression. Creative engagement coaches help improve the care and support for those living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. To provide enjoyment and reduce agitation and anxiety. To allow exploration of the connection between music, storytelling and brain cognition and emotional health in these individuals.
